Our intensive outpatient program (IOP) is recommended for patients who seek ongoing support for substance use recovery and mental health. Unlike in residential treatment programs, you’ll go home after attending therapy at our outpatient facility. This program allows you to handle your usual responsibilities while still receiving help for mental health disorders and drug or alcohol use.
The abundance of patients who start IOP in our facility have previously finalized detox and inpatient residential programs. They are now ready to work on issues more thoroughly by way of therapy to fix the mental element of substance use. The Counseling Center Fair Lawn conducts different levels of intensive outpatient care depending on your stage of recovery. After a medical evaluation, we assign a personalized plan of treatment specific to your unique situation. At this time, you’ll get started with a range of therapy appointments every week administered by our experienced counselors. While you’re in therapy, you’ll discover how to live without drugs or alcohol and how to handle any mental health issues that contributed to substance use in the first place.
Since we customize our treatments for individual patients, The Counseling Center at Fair Lawn uses various therapy methods to meet your unique requirements. That being said, almost all individuals go to a mix of individual, family, and group therapy.
All therapy is led by certified specialists who are here to help you. Throughout treatment, you might delve into topics like:
How disorders -- including bipolar, trauma, and anxiety disorder -- lead to alcohol and drug use
Post-acute withdrawal syndrome
· How to avoid relapse
The role of 12-Step programs during recovery
How families can cope over the course of addiction recovery
Also, you’ll obtain care for any mental health or co-occurring disorders that led to drug or alcohol use. Based on your particular circumstances, you could experience:
Cognitive behavioral therapy
Dialectical behavioral therapy
Trauma-informed therapy
Motivational interviewing
There isn’t a set answer to this since each individual has unique recovery goals and works through our drug or alcohol therapy with a personalized schedule. Many individuals attend treatment for eight weeks while others stay for three years or more. And, of course, you are free to enroll again as many times as needed.
No, our IOP program will not include detox or inpatient rehab treatment. If you don’t know if you need detox or rehab before exploring outpatient care at The Counseling Center, you may contact 201-389-5326. A staff member will respond promptly and consult with you on getting the care you need at an inpatient facility.
Outpatient and inpatient treatments are distinct phases of care. During inpatient therapy, you stay in a residential facility with access to caregivers 24 hours a day. Inpatient treatment gives you a safe environment to step away from external forces and get ongoing assistance when you detox or recover from alcohol or drugs or are in danger of relapsing during rehab.
Outpatient treatment is appropriate once you have moved forward enough in your recovery that you don’t need constant monitoring or medical intervention. Outpatient treatment helps you stay sober with support groups and therapy while allowing you to balance your everyday obligations. You can get treatment several days every week but return home after therapy as you continue to work towards enduring sobriety.
The Counseling Center Fair Lawn is a secular entity. While we hold the opinion that your own spirituality may play a role in alcohol and drug use recovery, our care isn’t guided by any religious beliefs.
We believe the 12-step method is helpful for many individuals. Our facility utilizes a few facets of 12-step programs, including stressing the importance of group therapy in our approach. We also hold 12-step meetings on our premises, and many of individuals in our care engage in these. With that being said, our driving force is always to provide personalized treatment for your needs and preferences.
We greatly recommend family engagement in therapy, and we provide weekly family support groups. Our specialized family counselors will help you and your family:
Improve your understanding of addiction and mental health disorders
Handle the strain of substance use recovery
Improve communication between family members
Resolve concerns
Identify co-dependency patterns
Regain trust
Learn how to aid one another
Your loved ones may want to begin by coming to a family education meeting. These sessions are conducted Wednesday evenings and supply families guidance about being there for a loved one in drug or alcohol recovery.
