About Naloxone and Narcan

The drug Naloxone (more commonly known as a product called Narcan) can reverse the effects of opiates and opioids (including heroin and many prescription pain killers) almost immediately when administered intravenously (with a needle) or intranasal (with a nasal spray). Emergency responders have carried Naloxone for many years, administering it under physician supervision when called to a scene of an overdose. Poison Control or emergency medical staff would rely on the availability of Naloxone as an emergency measure to counter an overdose, where death from overdose was likely.

Naloxone is Now More Available

As New Jersey suffered a rise in heroin and opioid overdoses, regulators tested programs that expanded the availability of Naloxone as a life-saving drug. Recently they have further relaxed the regulations, and Naloxone kits are available for use in the home, in many cases.

Is Naloxone the Answer to Heroin Addiction?

There are many questions related to heroin overdose, prevention, and addiction treatment that are not answered even by a powerful emergency antidote like naloxone.

Marc Wurgaft, LCSW, LCADC, CCS, Clinical Director for The Counseling Center at Fair Lawn, has helped bring this event to The Counseling Center. Marc will be on-hand during the event to answer questions about addiction disorders, treatment options, and how families and community members can better understand the role of naloxone in addiction and addiction treatment.

Come Learn More at the Training in Fair Lawn on September 26th.

This free seminar will provide detailed information about naloxone using Narcan nasal inhaler kit, including how and when it can properly be used to reverse overdose. The seminar will also address the rights and responsibilities of those seeking to utilize Naloxone kits in emergencies. Free naloxone kits will be available to participants, in accordance with regulations, and guidelines from the sponsors supplying the free kits.
