The Counseling Center is an outpatient treatment center for adults and adolescents seeking treatment for mental health issues (including dual-diagnosis), behavioral health, addiction, alcoholism, and co-occurring disorders associated with addiction and substance use. The Counseling Center at Fair Lawn offers a full-spectrum of individual and family counseling including Group Therapy and Psychotherapy, in addition to our state-of-the-art Intensive Outpatient (IOP) substance abuse treatment program.
Ryan Guterl, MA, LPC, Clinical Director
Clinical Director Ryan Guterl is a graduate of Caldwell College with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a master’s in Mental Health Counseling.
Proficient in cognitive-behavioral based forms of treatment, with years of experience in substance abuse treatment, Ryan is a nationally certified Counselor, and a Licensed Counselor in the State of New Jersey.
Ryan strives to provide an expert level of clinical assessment before treatment begins, in order to ensure an excellent match for each individual to the appropriate level of care at The Counseling Center. As clients make progress, he works closely with the clinical staff on every patient's treatment plan, to ensure each individual remains on track for successful recovery.
Kristie Ashe, LSW, Counselor
A 20+ year veteran working in substance abuse and mental health treatment, Kristie earned her bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Trinity College of Vermont, and a master’s degree in Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University.
As the Director of Mental Health Treatment Programming, Kristie facilitates both the individual and group sessions. These groups are for clients who are dealing with increased symptoms such as severe depression, anxiety, trauma, and substance abuse as it relates to self-medicating. By providing psychoeducation and an increase to self-awareness, she gives this unique population a chance to cope with their disease and live a happy and productive life.
Jenna Guarinello, Admissions Coordinator
Admissions Coordinator Jenna Guarinello helps conduct substance abuse assessments at The Counseling Center, which are used to determining the proper clinical diagnoses, in order to deliver an appropriate type and level of care. A student at University, Jenna is on track to pursue a Masters degree and seek certification as a Licensed Addictions Counselor. Her resume already includes working with children on behavioral problems in a private setting, providing care to the elderly as a nursing home volunteer, and mentoring at-risk teens through Youth Case Management, a program of the NJ Division of Mental Health Services.
Jenna assists counselors with the Saturday morning Serenity Group on Mindfulness and Meditation, and the Brain Resources program at The Counseling Center.
Vanessa Brown, Administrative Assistant
Administrative Assistant, Vanessa Brown, previously worked for NJ 211 as the addiction phone operator. During her time there she realized how massive the drug epidemic was and wanted to do more to help. Vanessa is currently in school to obtain her CADC (Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor) to better serve the clients of The Counseling Center at Fair Lawn.
Vanessa is genuinely passionate about her work and wants to make a difference in any way she can, even if that is as small as making a new client feel at home here.
Tom Roskin, Community Outreach
Tom Roskin is the Marketing Representative for The Counseling Center throughout New Jersey and New York. Tom earned his Bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University and was born Roslyn, NY, giving him a dedication to the New York/New Jersey area that can only come from being a part of it. A dedicated family man Tom likes to spend his free time, playing golf, tennis, and working out, along with catching up on some reading, and of course spending quality time with his family.
With the combination of watching those close to him struggle with substance use disorders and both of his parents working within the addictions field, Tom developed a deep passion for it. Tom enjoys the friendships he makes with staff members of Hospitals, treatment centers, and private therapists as well as the participating in gratifying process of watching a client transform from one type of person to a completely different person, with the coping skills and ability to function well in society.
Tom Roskin brings a sincere commitment to trustworthy support to his work at The Counseling Center, where he represents the outpatient treatment clinics as reliable partners in the Continuum of Care for patients and clients in New Jersey. The Counseling Center at Fair Lawn is an outpatient treatment center for adults and adolescents. The Counseling Center is licensed by the State of New Jersey to provide a full spectrum of mental health and addiction services, for dual diagnosis, addiction, and co-occurring disorders associated with substance abuse.
Clinical mental health assessments, psychiatric evaluations, and individual, family and group psychotherapy are available for Adults & adolescents age 15 and older. Pharmacotherapy is available as appropriate.
Substance abuse treatment services include assessments, urine drug screening (UDS), psychiatric evaluations, adult Intensive Outpatient (IOP) groups, outpatient counseling, and adolescent individual & family counseling, as well as clinically appropriate pharmacotherapy.
Eligibility for all programs is based on a clinical assessment. Now offering Saturday assessments!
